Lurasidone blocks dopamine D2 receptors, while bromocriptine stimulates them. The antipsychotic can therefore blunt bromocriptine's effect in hyperprolactinemia or Parkinson disease, and bromocriptine may worsen psychosis.

What this interaction means in plain words

Bromocriptine and Lurasidone can affect each other. The combination is often manageable, but it may need a change of dose, a change of timing, or extra checks while both are taken.

Bromocriptine belongs to Central Nervous System; Lurasidone belongs to Central Nervous System.

Evidence level: Moderate

Why it happens

Pharmacodynamic antagonism between D2 receptor blockade and D2 agonism.

What to do

Avoid the combination where possible, especially in Parkinson disease, where quetiapine or clozapine are preferred antipsychotics. If used, monitor motor symptoms, prolactin and psychiatric status.
