Summary
Carbidopa is usually given with levodopa, and the dopaminergic therapy can lower blood pressure and cause orthostatic hypotension. Combined with a potent loop diuretic that reduces blood volume, the fall in blood pressure may be greater, particularly when dopaminergic treatment is started.
What this interaction means in plain words
Bumetanide and Carbidopa have a small, usually unimportant interaction. Most people can take both; the pharmacist may still mention it so that any unexpected effect is recognised.
Bumetanide belongs to Cardiovascular; Carbidopa belongs to Central Nervous System.
Why it happens
Additive pharmacodynamic hypotensive effects of dopaminergic therapy and diuretic-induced volume depletion.
What to do
Check standing and sitting blood pressure when carbidopa-containing therapy is started or titrated. Reduce the bumetanide or other antihypertensive dose if symptomatic hypotension develops.
