Summary
Both drugs are partly eliminated by renal tubular secretion, so digoxin may modestly raise pramipexole exposure. Increased dopaminergic adverse effects such as nausea, dizziness, hallucinations or somnolence may result.
What this interaction means in plain words
Digoxin and Pramipexole have a small, usually unimportant interaction. Most people can take both; the pharmacist may still mention it so that any unexpected effect is recognised.
Digoxin belongs to Cardiovascular; Pramipexole belongs to Cardiovascular.
Why it happens
Competition for renal tubular secretion by cationic transport pathways may reduce pramipexole clearance.
What to do
No routine dose change is needed. Watch for dopaminergic adverse effects and reduce the pramipexole dose if they appear.
What to ask your pharmacist
- Is there anything I should notice while taking both?
- Do I need to tell my doctor at the next visit?
