Summary
Voxelotor inhibits CYP3A4 and can raise exposure to sensitive CYP3A4 substrates such as eletriptan. Higher eletriptan levels may increase triptan adverse effects including vasoconstriction, hypertension and chest symptoms.
What this interaction means in plain words
Eletriptan and Voxelotor can affect each other. The combination is often manageable, but it may need a change of dose, a change of timing, or extra checks while both are taken.
Eletriptan belongs to Central Nervous System; Voxelotor belongs to Miscellaneous.
Why it happens
Voxelotor inhibits intestinal and hepatic CYP3A4, reducing the first-pass and systemic metabolism of eletriptan.
What to do
Avoid the combination if a suitable alternative triptan not metabolized by CYP3A4 is available. If used together, consider a reduced eletriptan dose and monitor blood pressure and cardiovascular symptoms.
What to ask your pharmacist
