Summary
Eribulin can prolong the QT interval, and androgen deprivation therapy with leuprolide may also prolong it. Together they may raise the risk of QT prolongation and torsades de pointes, especially with electrolyte disturbances.
What this interaction means in plain words
Eribulin and Leuprolide can affect each other. The combination is often manageable, but it may need a change of dose, a change of timing, or extra checks while both are taken.
Eribulin belongs to Oncology; Leuprolide belongs to Endocrine.
Why it happens
Additive QT interval prolongation, via androgen deprivation (leuprolide) and direct effects of eribulin.
What to do
Obtain an ECG at baseline and monitor it periodically, and correct potassium and magnesium before and during eribulin treatment. Avoid additional QT-prolonging drugs where possible.
What to ask your pharmacist
- Should I take them at different times of day?
- Does the dose of either medicine need to change?
- Is there anything I should avoid, such as alcohol or certain foods, while on both?
