Summary

Fluconazole can prolong the QT interval and has been linked to torsades de pointes, especially at higher doses or with electrolyte disturbances. Salbutamol may add to this through tachycardia and lowered potassium. The risk is mainly relevant with high-dose or frequent salbutamol use.

What this interaction means in plain words

Fluconazole and Ipratropium-salbutamol can affect each other. The combination is often manageable, but it may need a change of dose, a change of timing, or extra checks while both are taken.

Fluconazole belongs to Anti Fungals; Ipratropium-salbutamol belongs to Respiratory.

Evidence level: Low

Why it happens

Additive QT-prolonging potential, with beta-agonist-induced hypokalemia increasing susceptibility.

What to do

Check potassium and magnesium and correct deficits; obtain an ECG if the patient has other QT risk factors. Avoid excessive salbutamol dosing.
