Summary

Thiazides can worsen glucose tolerance and may partly offset the glucose lowering effect of liraglutide. Gastrointestinal fluid loss from liraglutide combined with the diuretic and ACE inhibitor can also contribute to volume depletion and kidney injury.

What this interaction means in plain words

Hydrochlorothiazide-lisinopril and Liraglutide have a small, usually unimportant interaction. Most people can take both; the pharmacist may still mention it so that any unexpected effect is recognised.

Hydrochlorothiazide-lisinopril belongs to Cardiovascular; Liraglutide belongs to Endocrine.

Evidence level: Low

Why it happens

Thiazides reduce insulin sensitivity and secretion, opposing GLP-1 agonist effects, and liraglutide-related fluid loss may add to diuretic volume depletion.

What to do

Monitor glycemic control when starting or changing the thiazide dose, and ensure adequate hydration with renal function monitoring if vomiting or diarrhea occurs.
