Summary

Risperidone can prolong the QT interval and salbutamol may add a small additional effect, particularly if hypokalemia occurs. Salbutamol can also cause tachycardia and hypotension through vasodilation, which may be more pronounced with risperidone's alpha-blocking activity. Systemic anticholinergic effects from inhaled ipratropium are minimal.

What this interaction means in plain words

Ipratropium-salbutamol and Risperidone can affect each other. The combination is often manageable, but it may need a change of dose, a change of timing, or extra checks while both are taken.

Ipratropium-salbutamol belongs to Respiratory; Risperidone belongs to Central Nervous System.

Evidence level: Low

Why it happens

Additive QT prolongation and overlapping cardiovascular effects, with beta-agonist-induced hypokalemia contributing.

What to do

Monitor heart rate, blood pressure and ECG in patients with cardiac risk factors or on high-dose salbutamol. Check potassium if repeated beta-agonist dosing is needed.
