Summary

Trazodone has little noradrenaline reuptake inhibition, so a direct sympathomimetic potentiation is not well established. Both drugs can however affect cardiac rhythm, as trazodone may prolong the QT interval and salbutamol can cause tachycardia and hypokalemia.

What this interaction means in plain words

Ipratropium-salbutamol and Trazodone have a small, usually unimportant interaction. Most people can take both; the pharmacist may still mention it so that any unexpected effect is recognised.

Ipratropium-salbutamol belongs to Respiratory; Trazodone belongs to Central Nervous System.

Evidence level: Low

Why it happens

Possible additive QT and heart-rate effects; the claimed reuptake mechanism is weak for trazodone.

What to do

No routine change is needed at usual inhaled doses. Monitor ECG and potassium in patients with QT risk factors or heavy salbutamol use.
