Overview
Additive risk of photosensitivity/phototoxic reactions; both agents can also elevate liver enzymes or rarely cause hepatotoxicity.
Mechanism of action
Pharmacodynamic: additive phototoxicity (both are photosensitizing). Pharmacodynamic/kinetic: each associated with hepatic enzyme elevations and rare hepatotoxicity, increasing cumulative liver risk.
Clinical management
Advise strict photoprotection (broad-spectrum sunscreen, protective clothing, avoid tanning/UV). Limit NSAID duration and consider alternatives if feasible. Obtain baseline LFTs and monitor during combined use; discontinue or adjust if ALT/AST >3× ULN or if hepatitis symptoms occur.
