What this interaction means in plain words
Labetalol and Metoprolol can interact in a way that may be serious. Using them together is sometimes necessary, but it needs a deliberate decision by the prescriber, a plan for monitoring, and clear advice on the warning signs to watch for.
Labetalol belongs to Cardiovascular; Metoprolol belongs to Cardiovascular.
Why it happens
Additive beta-adrenergic blockade plus alpha-1 blockade from labetalol.
What to do
Avoid combining; use one beta-blocker only. If overlap occurs, stop one and monitor heart rate and blood pressure.
