Summary

Mifepristone inhibits CYP3A4, one of several enzymes that contribute to lacosamide clearance. Lacosamide exposure may rise modestly, but because other pathways (notably CYP2C19) and renal excretion also contribute, the effect is usually limited.

What this interaction means in plain words

Lacosamide and Mifepristone have a small, usually unimportant interaction. Most people can take both; the pharmacist may still mention it so that any unexpected effect is recognised.

Lacosamide belongs to Central Nervous System; Mifepristone belongs to Endocrine.

Evidence level: Low

Why it happens

Mifepristone inhibition of CYP3A4 may slightly reduce the metabolism of lacosamide.

What to do

No routine dose change is needed; watch for dizziness, ataxia or PR-interval effects if lacosamide is being used at high doses or the patient has renal or hepatic impairment.

What to ask your pharmacist
