Summary
Sorafenib can prolong the QT interval, and androgen deprivation with leuprolide may also lengthen it. Together they may increase the risk of ventricular arrhythmia, particularly with electrolyte abnormalities.
What this interaction means in plain words
Leuprolide and Sorafenib can affect each other. The combination is often manageable, but it may need a change of dose, a change of timing, or extra checks while both are taken.
Leuprolide belongs to Endocrine; Sorafenib belongs to Oncology.
Why it happens
Additive QT prolongation from sorafenib and from testosterone suppression by leuprolide.
What to do
Monitor ECG and electrolytes at baseline and periodically, and correct potassium and magnesium deficits. Avoid further QT-prolonging drugs where possible.
What to ask your pharmacist
- Should I take them at different times of day?
- Does the dose of either medicine need to change?
- Is there anything I should avoid, such as alcohol or certain foods, while on both?
