Summary
Thyroid hormone can increase the sensitivity of adrenergic receptors and may enhance the cardiac and CNS effects of tricyclic antidepressants. This can result in tachycardia, arrhythmias and agitation, although thyroid hormone is also sometimes used deliberately to augment antidepressants.
What this interaction means in plain words
Levothyroxine and Trimipramine can affect each other. The combination is often manageable, but it may need a change of dose, a change of timing, or extra checks while both are taken.
Levothyroxine belongs to Endocrine; Trimipramine belongs to Central Nervous System.
Why it happens
Increased adrenergic receptor sensitivity, leading to enhanced tricyclic cardiovascular and CNS effects.
