Summary

Ticlopidine inhibits CYP2C9 and may raise meloxicam exposure, increasing the risk of NSAID adverse effects. In addition, both drugs impair hemostasis, so bleeding risk is increased.

What this interaction means in plain words

Meloxicam and Ticlopidine can affect each other. The combination is often manageable, but it may need a change of dose, a change of timing, or extra checks while both are taken.

Meloxicam belongs to Musculoskeletal; Ticlopidine belongs to Cardiovascular.

Evidence level: Low

Why it happens

Ticlopidine inhibits CYP2C9-mediated meloxicam metabolism, and both drugs have additive antiplatelet or GI-bleeding effects.

What to do

Monitor for GI bleeding and other NSAID adverse effects, and use the lowest effective meloxicam dose. Consider an alternative analgesic if possible.

What to ask your pharmacist
