Summary
Methoxsalen is a potent CYP1A2 inhibitor and pentoxifylline is partly cleared via CYP1A2. Oral methoxsalen may therefore raise pentoxifylline exposure and increase adverse effects such as nausea, flushing, dizziness and hypotension.
What this interaction means in plain words
Methoxsalen and Pentoxifylline can affect each other. The combination is often manageable, but it may need a change of dose, a change of timing, or extra checks while both are taken.
Methoxsalen belongs to Anti Fungals; Pentoxifylline belongs to Cardiovascular.
Why it happens
Methoxsalen inhibits CYP1A2-mediated metabolism of pentoxifylline.
What to do
Monitor for pentoxifylline adverse effects, including hypotension and bleeding, and reduce the dose if they appear.
