Summary
Rucaparib inhibits CYP2C9, CYP1A2 and CYP3A, the enzymes that clear warfarin enantiomers. Exposure to warfarin may therefore rise, increasing INR and bleeding risk.
What this interaction means in plain words
Rucaparib and Warfarin can affect each other. The combination is often manageable, but it may need a change of dose, a change of timing, or extra checks while both are taken.
Rucaparib belongs to Oncology; Warfarin belongs to Cardiovascular.
Why it happens
Inhibition of CYP2C9, CYP1A2 and CYP3A by rucaparib reduces warfarin clearance.
What to do
Monitor INR more often when rucaparib is started or stopped. Reduce the warfarin dose if INR rises.
What to ask your pharmacist
- Should I take them at different times of day?
- Does the dose of either medicine need to change?
- Is there anything I should avoid, such as alcohol or certain foods, while on both?
