Summary
Amisulpride prolongs the QT interval in a dose-dependent way, and deutetrabenazine may add a small QT effect, especially at higher exposures. Both can also cause sedation. Risk of torsades de pointes is greater with bradycardia, hypokalemia, hypomagnesemia or congenital long QT.
What this interaction means in plain words
Amisulpride and Deutetrabenazine can affect each other. The combination is often manageable, but it may need a change of dose, a change of timing, or extra checks while both are taken.
Amisulpride belongs to Central Nervous System; Deutetrabenazine belongs to Central Nervous System.
Why it happens
Additive QT prolongation and additive CNS depression; amisulpride blocks cardiac repolarizing potassium channels.
What to do
Obtain a baseline ECG, correct potassium and magnesium, and repeat the ECG after dose changes. Avoid the combination in patients with congenital long QT or other QT-prolonging drugs.
What to ask your pharmacist
