Summary
Both drugs depress the central nervous system, so giving baclofen to a patient who receives propofol can deepen sedation and increase the risk of respiratory depression and hypotension. The effect is most relevant during procedural sedation or anesthesia in patients on chronic or intrathecal baclofen.
What this interaction means in plain words
Baclofen and Propofol can affect each other. The combination is often manageable, but it may need a change of dose, a change of timing, or extra checks while both are taken.
Baclofen belongs to Musculoskeletal; Propofol belongs to Central Nervous System.
Why it happens
Additive CNS depression through GABA-B agonism (baclofen) and GABA-A potentiation (propofol).
What to do
Titrate propofol cautiously to effect and monitor respiratory rate, oxygen saturation and blood pressure. Tell the anesthesia team about baclofen use before sedation.
What to ask your pharmacist
