Summary
Chlorpromazine prolongs the QT interval, and deutetrabenazine has small QT effects that become relevant with other QT-prolonging drugs or risk factors. Together they may raise the risk of torsades de pointes. Both can also cause sedation and parkinsonism.
What this interaction means in plain words
Chlorpromazine and Deutetrabenazine can affect each other. The combination is often manageable, but it may need a change of dose, a change of timing, or extra checks while both are taken.
Chlorpromazine belongs to Central Nervous System; Deutetrabenazine belongs to Central Nervous System.
Why it happens
Additive QT prolongation; both drugs also affect dopaminergic pathways (D2 blockade and VMAT2 inhibition).
What to do
Check ECG at baseline and after dose changes, and correct hypokalemia and hypomagnesemia. Avoid the combination in patients with congenital long QT or bradycardia.
