Summary
Disopyramide prolongs the QT interval and can cause torsades de pointes. High-dose salbutamol can cause tachycardia, hypokalemia and some QT lengthening, which may raise arrhythmia risk. Disopyramide also has anticholinergic effects additive to ipratropium.
What this interaction means in plain words
Disopyramide and Ipratropium-salbutamol can affect each other. The combination is often manageable, but it may need a change of dose, a change of timing, or extra checks while both are taken.
Disopyramide belongs to Cardiovascular; Ipratropium-salbutamol belongs to Respiratory.
Why it happens
Additive QT prolongation, with beta-agonist-induced hypokalemia increasing proarrhythmic risk; additive anticholinergic effects.
What to do
Check potassium and magnesium and consider ECG monitoring, especially with frequent or high-dose salbutamol. Correct electrolyte abnormalities and watch for anticholinergic effects such as urinary retention.
What to ask your pharmacist
