Summary

Both drugs can prolong the QT interval, so giving them together may add to the risk of ventricular arrhythmia, including torsades de pointes. The risk is higher with electrolyte disturbances, heart disease or other QT-prolonging drugs.

What this interaction means in plain words

Dolasetron and Hydroxyzine can affect each other. The combination is often manageable, but it may need a change of dose, a change of timing, or extra checks while both are taken.

Dolasetron belongs to Gastrointestinal Tract; Hydroxyzine belongs to Respiratory.

Evidence level: Moderate

Why it happens

Additive prolongation of cardiac repolarization through blockade of cardiac potassium channels.

What to do

Obtain a baseline ECG and correct potassium and magnesium before use. Consider a non-QT-prolonging antiemetic if the patient has other risk factors.
