Summary
Tacrolimus can prolong the QT interval, and dolasetron has similar effects on cardiac conduction. Together they may increase the risk of arrhythmia, particularly with hypokalemia or hypomagnesemia, which tacrolimus can cause.
What this interaction means in plain words
Dolasetron and Tacrolimus can affect each other. The combination is often manageable, but it may need a change of dose, a change of timing, or extra checks while both are taken.
Dolasetron belongs to Gastrointestinal Tract; Tacrolimus belongs to Miscellaneous.
Why it happens
Additive QT prolongation, with tacrolimus-related electrolyte disturbances adding risk.
What to do
Monitor ECG, potassium and magnesium, and correct abnormalities. Use an alternative antiemetic if QTc is prolonged.
What to ask your pharmacist
- Should I take them at different times of day?
- Does the dose of either medicine need to change?
- Is there anything I should avoid, such as alcohol or certain foods, while on both?
