Summary

Enzalutamide is a strong CYP3A4 inducer and quizartinib is cleared mainly by CYP3A4. Coadministration can lower quizartinib exposure and may reduce its antileukemic effect.

What this interaction means in plain words

Enzalutamide and Quizartinib can interact in a way that may be serious. Using them together is sometimes necessary, but it needs a deliberate decision by the prescriber, a plan for monitoring, and clear advice on the warning signs to watch for.

Enzalutamide belongs to Endocrine; Quizartinib belongs to Oncology.

Evidence level: Moderate

Why it happens

Induction of CYP3A4 by enzalutamide increases quizartinib metabolism and lowers its plasma concentrations.

What to do

Avoid combining with strong CYP3A inducers where possible and consider an alternative anticancer or antiandrogen therapy. If unavoidable, monitor leukemia response and ECG/QT closely.

What to ask your pharmacist

  • Does the benefit of taking both outweigh the risk in my case?
  • Do I need any blood test, ECG or other check while on both?
  • What early warning signs should I watch for, and what should I do if they appear?
