Summary
Eslicarbazepine may decrease midostaurin exposure through CYP3A4 induction. Strong inducers substantially reduce midostaurin levels, and reduced efficacy in leukemia is a concern.
What this interaction means in plain words
Eslicarbazepine and Midostaurin can interact in a way that may be serious. Using them together is sometimes necessary, but it needs a deliberate decision by the prescriber, a plan for monitoring, and clear advice on the warning signs to watch for.
Eslicarbazepine belongs to Central Nervous System; Midostaurin belongs to Oncology.
Why it happens
CYP3A4 induction increases midostaurin metabolism.
What to do
Prefer a non-inducing anticonvulsant. If combined, monitor for reduced leukemia response.
