Summary
Modafinil is a weak CYP3A4 inducer and a CYP2C19 inhibitor. Flibanserin is metabolized mainly by CYP3A4 with a contribution from CYP2C19, so net exposure change is uncertain; any increase could add to hypotension, syncope and sedation.
What this interaction means in plain words
Flibanserin and Modafinil have a small, usually unimportant interaction. Most people can take both; the pharmacist may still mention it so that any unexpected effect is recognised.
Flibanserin belongs to Genitourinary; Modafinil belongs to Central Nervous System.
Why it happens
Modafinil has opposing weak effects on CYP3A4 (induction) and CYP2C19 (inhibition), which are involved in flibanserin metabolism.
What to do
No dose change is generally needed. Ask the patient about dizziness, fainting or excessive sedation and reassess if these occur.
What to ask your pharmacist
- Is there anything I should notice while taking both?
- Do I need to tell my doctor at the next visit?
