Summary
Posaconazole strongly inhibits CYP3A4 and may reduce the clearance of flutamide, which is metabolized partly by CYP1A2 and CYP3A4. Higher exposure to flutamide or its active metabolite could increase the risk of its dose-related hepatotoxicity.
What this interaction means in plain words
Flutamide and Posaconazole can affect each other. The combination is often manageable, but it may need a change of dose, a change of timing, or extra checks while both are taken.
Flutamide belongs to Endocrine; Posaconazole belongs to Anti Fungals.
Why it happens
Posaconazole inhibits CYP3A4-mediated metabolism of flutamide.
What to do
Monitor liver enzymes and bilirubin regularly and counsel the patient to report jaundice, dark urine or abdominal pain. Stop flutamide if hepatic injury develops.
