Summary

Voriconazole inhibits CYP3A4, CYP2C9 and CYP2C19, which contribute to lacosamide metabolism, so lacosamide levels may rise modestly. Lacosamide is also eliminated renally and CYP2C19 is the main route, so the effect is usually small but may increase dizziness and PR interval prolongation.

What this interaction means in plain words

Lacosamide and Voriconazole have a small, usually unimportant interaction. Most people can take both; the pharmacist may still mention it so that any unexpected effect is recognised.

Lacosamide belongs to Central Nervous System; Voriconazole belongs to Anti Fungals.

Evidence level: Low

Why it happens

Voriconazole inhibits CYP enzymes involved in lacosamide metabolism, slightly reducing clearance.

What to do

No routine dose change; monitor for dizziness, ataxia and conduction abnormalities, and reduce the dose if they occur.
