Summary

Both agents can prolong the QT interval, and pentamidine has been associated with torsades de pointes. Together they increase the chance of life-threatening ventricular arrhythmia.

What this interaction means in plain words

Moxifloxacin and Pentamidine are not normally used together. Taking them at the same time is expected to cause harm or make one of them unsafe, so a different medicine is usually chosen for one of the two.

Moxifloxacin belongs to Anti Bacterial; Pentamidine belongs to Anti Parasitic.

Evidence level: Moderate

Why it happens

Additive QT prolongation through effects on cardiac repolarization currents.

What to do

Avoid the combination and select a non-QT-prolonging antibiotic. If pentamidine is essential, obtain baseline and follow-up ECGs and correct potassium and magnesium.
