Summary

Heparins, including dalteparin, can suppress aldosterone secretion and cause hyperkalemia, which may be amplified by an ACE inhibitor such as perindopril. The risk is greater in renal impairment, diabetes and prolonged therapy.

What this interaction means in plain words

Amlodipine-perindopril and Dalteparin can affect each other. The combination is often manageable, but it may need a change of dose, a change of timing, or extra checks while both are taken.

Amlodipine-perindopril belongs to Cardiovascular; Dalteparin belongs to Cardiovascular.

Evidence level: Moderate

Why it happens

Heparin-induced suppression of adrenal aldosterone synthesis adds to the potassium-retaining effect of ACE inhibition.

What to do

Check serum potassium at baseline and periodically, especially if therapy exceeds several days or renal function is reduced. Treat hyperkalemia or reconsider therapy if potassium rises.

What to ask your pharmacist
