Summary
Rucaparib is a weak inhibitor of CYP3A4 and could modestly raise apalutamide exposure, but apalutamide is also cleared by CYP2C8 and the effect is expected to be small. Apalutamide itself is a potent CYP3A4 inducer, but it is not expected to alter rucaparib clearance meaningfully through that route.
What this interaction means in plain words
Apalutamide and Rucaparib have a small, usually unimportant interaction. Most people can take both; the pharmacist may still mention it so that any unexpected effect is recognised.
Apalutamide belongs to Endocrine; Rucaparib belongs to Oncology.
Why it happens
Weak inhibition of CYP3A4 (and CYP2C8) by rucaparib may slightly reduce apalutamide metabolism.
What to do
No dose adjustment is usually needed; monitor for apalutamide adverse effects such as rash, fatigue and falls.
What to ask your pharmacist
- Is there anything I should notice while taking both?
