Summary
Both drugs can prolong the QT interval, so giving them together may raise the risk of torsades de pointes. The risk is higher with electrolyte disturbances, bradycardia, structural heart disease or other QT-prolonging drugs.
What this interaction means in plain words
Apomorphine and Fluconazole can affect each other. The combination is often manageable, but it may need a change of dose, a change of timing, or extra checks while both are taken.
Apomorphine belongs to Central Nervous System; Fluconazole belongs to Anti Fungals.
Why it happens
Additive pharmacodynamic QT prolongation; fluconazole blocks cardiac hERG potassium channels and apomorphine has been associated with QT prolongation.
What to do
Obtain a baseline ECG and correct potassium and magnesium before combining. Repeat the ECG if risk factors are present and avoid the combination in patients with congenital long QT.
What to ask your pharmacist
