Summary
Lopinavir, which is co-formulated with ritonavir, inhibits CYP3A4 and substantially raises avanafil exposure. This increases the risk of severe hypotension, syncope, visual changes and priapism.
What this interaction means in plain words
Avanafil and Lopinavir are not normally used together. Taking them at the same time is expected to cause harm or make one of them unsafe, so a different medicine is usually chosen for one of the two.
Avanafil belongs to Genitourinary; Lopinavir belongs to Anti Virals.
Why it happens
Ritonavir-boosted CYP3A4 inhibition decreases avanafil metabolism.
What to do
Avoid avanafil with lopinavir/ritonavir; choose a different erectile dysfunction option.
