Summary
Danicopan inhibits P-glycoprotein and may increase exposure to P-gp substrates. Ondansetron is only partly handled by P-gp, so the effect is probably modest, but higher exposure adds to its dose-related QT effect.
What this interaction means in plain words
Danicopan and Ondansetron have a small, usually unimportant interaction. Most people can take both; the pharmacist may still mention it so that any unexpected effect is recognised.
Danicopan belongs to Miscellaneous; Ondansetron belongs to Gastrointestinal Tract.
Why it happens
P-glycoprotein inhibition by danicopan may increase ondansetron absorption.
What to do
No routine adjustment is needed. Use the lowest effective ondansetron dose and consider an ECG in patients at risk of QT prolongation.
What to ask your pharmacist
- Is there anything I should notice while taking both?
- Do I need to tell my doctor at the next visit?
