Summary
Both drugs induce CYP3A4 and are substrates of it, so each may lower the other's exposure. Reduced etravirine levels risk loss of virologic control and resistance, and enzalutamide efficacy may also fall.
What this interaction means in plain words
Enzalutamide and Etravirine can interact in a way that may be serious. Using them together is sometimes necessary, but it needs a deliberate decision by the prescriber, a plan for monitoring, and clear advice on the warning signs to watch for.
Enzalutamide belongs to Endocrine; Etravirine belongs to Anti Virals.
Why it happens
Mutual CYP3A4 induction increases clearance of both drugs.
What to do
Avoid the combination where possible and choose an alternative antiretroviral regimen. If unavoidable, monitor HIV viral load and clinical response to enzalutamide closely.
What to ask your pharmacist
