Summary
Thiazide diuretics reduce urinary calcium excretion, and combined with vitamin D supplementation this can raise serum calcium and occasionally cause hypercalcemia. Risk is higher with high vitamin D doses, calcium supplements or renal impairment.
What this interaction means in plain words
Hydrochlorothiazide-irbesartan and Vitamin d can affect each other. The combination is often manageable, but it may need a change of dose, a change of timing, or extra checks while both are taken.
Hydrochlorothiazide-irbesartan belongs to Cardiovascular; Vitamin d belongs to Gastrointestinal Tract.
Why it happens
Thiazides increase distal tubular calcium reabsorption while vitamin D increases intestinal calcium absorption, producing additive increases in serum calcium.
What to do
Monitor serum calcium periodically, especially with high-dose vitamin D or calcium supplements. Reduce the vitamin D or calcium dose if hypercalcemia develops.
