Summary

Voriconazole can prolong the QT interval, and androgen deprivation therapy with leuprolide may also lengthen QT. Taken together, the effect on cardiac repolarization may be additive and raise the risk of torsades de pointes, especially with electrolyte disturbances or underlying heart disease.

What this interaction means in plain words

Leuprolide and Voriconazole can affect each other. The combination is often manageable, but it may need a change of dose, a change of timing, or extra checks while both are taken.

Leuprolide belongs to Endocrine; Voriconazole belongs to Anti Fungals.

Evidence level: Low

Why it happens

Additive pharmacodynamic QT prolongation from both agents.

What to do

Obtain a baseline ECG and correct potassium and magnesium before starting, then repeat the ECG during co-therapy. Avoid the combination in patients with congenital long QT or other QT-prolonging drugs.

What to ask your pharmacist
