What this interaction means in plain words

Lisdexamfetamine and Magnesium oxide have a small, usually unimportant interaction. Most people can take both; the pharmacist may still mention it so that any unexpected effect is recognised.

Lisdexamfetamine belongs to Central Nervous System; Magnesium oxide belongs to Gastrointestinal Tract.

Evidence level: Low

Why it happens

Urinary alkalinization increases tubular reabsorption of amphetamine and reduces its renal clearance.

What to do

Monitor for increased stimulant effects when starting or regularly using magnesium antacids. Reduce the lisdexamfetamine dose if adverse effects appear.
