Summary
Stiripentol inhibits and may also induce CYP1A2 and CYP3A4, two of the main enzymes that clear mirtazapine. Mirtazapine exposure may therefore rise or fall unpredictably, causing excess sedation or reduced antidepressant effect.
What this interaction means in plain words
Mirtazapine and Stiripentol can affect each other. The combination is often manageable, but it may need a change of dose, a change of timing, or extra checks while both are taken.
Mirtazapine belongs to Central Nervous System; Stiripentol belongs to Central Nervous System.
Why it happens
Stiripentol modulates CYP1A2 and CYP3A4 activity (inhibition and induction), altering mirtazapine metabolism.
What to do
Monitor for sedation and for loss of antidepressant response when starting, stopping or changing the stiripentol dose. Adjust the mirtazapine dose according to clinical response.
