Summary
Fostamatinib's active metabolite tamatinib inhibits P-glycoprotein and may increase exposure to ivermectin. Because ivermectin has a wide therapeutic margin, the effect is probably small, but neurological adverse effects are theoretically possible.
What this interaction means in plain words
Fostamatinib and Ivermectin have a small, usually unimportant interaction. Most people can take both; the pharmacist may still mention it so that any unexpected effect is recognised.
Fostamatinib belongs to Oncology; Ivermectin belongs to Anti Parasitic.
Why it happens
Tamatinib inhibits P-glycoprotein, reducing efflux of ivermectin and raising its absorption and tissue penetration.
What to do
No dose change is usually required for short ivermectin courses. Monitor for dizziness, ataxia or other CNS effects.
What to ask your pharmacist
- Is there anything I should notice while taking both?
- Do I need to tell my doctor at the next visit?
