Deutetrabenazine labeling prohibits use with MAO inhibitors and for 14 days after stopping one. Combining them may cause hypertension and other adrenergic effects.

Deutetrabenazine and Selegiline are not normally used together. Taking them at the same time is expected to cause harm or make one of them unsafe, so a different medicine is usually chosen for one of the two.

Deutetrabenazine depletes and releases monoamines while MAO inhibition blocks their breakdown, so catecholamines can accumulate and cause a pressor response.

Do not coadminister. Leave at least 14 days between stopping an MAOI and starting deutetrabenazine.
